  • Compact SERATO DJ CONTROLLER - 2 Channel
  • Product Description

    Pioneer DJ Controller, Black (DDJ-SB3).

    From the manufacturer

    Main

    Start from scratch

We’ve combined the popular features of the DDJ-SB2 with our leading Serato DJ controllers to make learning to DJ more accessible than ever. The ideal tool for beginners looking to hone their skills, this 2-channel controller is easy to navigate, featuring a professional-style layout inspired by our top DDJ-S range. Master Serato DJ Lite, then when you’re ready, purchase Serato DJ Pro to progress on the one machine.

Transition between tracks with ease thanks to the added FX Fade feature and experiment with scratch effects without using turntables via the new Pad Scratch function. Co-developed with DJ Jazzy Jeff, this technique adds scratch recordings to tracks at a touch of the Performance Pads.

    Key Features

    Intuitive layout

All of the features were designed to be where you need them, when you need them. The layout inherits elements from our DDJ-S series with jog wheels, Performance Pads, play and cue buttons, independent Auto Loop buttons and all knobs and fader positions arranged in an easy-to-reach way that mimics professional gear.

    Pad Scratch

Add scratch effects to cued and currently playing songs without a turntable thanks to Pad Scratch. This new effect lets you reproduce, and create patterns from, eight of hip hop legend DJ Jazzy Jeff’s different scratch recordings. As the speed automatically matches the BPM, you won’t need to worry about breaking rhythm.

    Smooth transitions

Whether you’re an experienced DJ or beginner, mixing is seamless with the FX Fade feature. By reducing the volume and applying FX at the same time, FX Fade smoothly blends tracks – even those from clashing genres. Choose eight combinations of the following four FX patterns – high pass filter, low pass filter, loop playback and back spin.

    Durable Design

The DDJ-SB3 is constructed from premium materials and audio circuitry. Its robust build ensures durability, while the distinctive styling and aluminium jog wheel deliver a professional feel.

    2

    Large jog wheels

It may be compact, but the DDJ-SB3 features large, low-latency jog wheels to give you great scratch response and accuracy.

    Features

    Portable design

Take this controller with you wherever you go thanks to the easy grab handles and lightweight design. Simply connect the USB cable to begin playing.

    On-board Serato sound card

Simply connect to your PC/Mac via USB to get plug-and-play control of Serato DJ Lite, no need for an external sound card.

Paid upgrade to Serato DJ Pro

Purchase Serato DJ Pro for control of dedicated buttons for FX, along with advanced features such as Beat Jump, Slip mode, 8 Hot Cues and 8 Sample buttons. Simply connect your PC/Mac and start playing.

    Clear audio

The mic input circuit produces clear audio without distortion to ensure crystal-clear sound even at high input levels.

This is a great little controller! They say it’s for begginers but I started out DJing in the late 90’s with 2 Technic 1200’s and carrying crates of vinyl. I sold all my old dj gear and stopped going to clubs and got more into music production but now got the itch again just to just mess around and do some mixes. I wont use it too much so didnt need something too expensive and fancy but this thing actualy has a lot of features! I use this with Djay pro which intergarates Spotify. Some claim it isnt compatible but it is, its just not mapped out by default yet so you have to do it yourself and it works great. I’m sure Algoriddim will officially have it fine tuned soon but again it does work. I have this connected with a 2016 version Macbook Pro and Rokit 6 studio monitors with no sound or humming issues if you’re curious. 5 Stars!! Highly recommend!

Look, I'll be honest, I didn't expect much after reading the negative reviews on here. I'm just a dude that wanted to learn something new and hopefully make a little extra money on the side. I saw things like the lights don't come on when they plug it into the computer; mine did. I read that it felt like a cheap plastic toy; that's false. The jog wheels were very responsive. They didn't feel like a fidget spinner but it didn't feel like a bearing that had dirt in it. Smooth but with enough resistance that it felt like I was doing something. ALL of the lights worked, and so did the buttons. I use it with Virtual DJ and it took a minute to figure out that you had to turn all of the knobs to their lowest settings before VDJ would recognize them. I use bluetooth headphones so getting my program to push sound to the correct device was a pain in the ass, but once I got it working, I was impressed. I scratched a little, i mixed a little, I fiddled with it. I am very happy with it and I'm glad I made the purchase. Although, if I had to give any real feedback, it's that I wish Pioneer would have included at least a soft case for it. I don't like the idea that I have to spend another $40 on Amazon for a travel case. I might just build a multi case from a Pelican case. All I'm saying is, of course buyer beware, that's with anything you buy online. But THIS controller? Worth every penny. If anything changes in the negative, I'll update.

I've been a DJ for 25+ years, and been using Numark, Traktor & Gemini. my latest was Traktor S2 with Traktor Pro, but started to have issues with S2 controller not connecting to my laptop. so, I searched for something similar to what I have and came across the Pioneer DDJ-SB3. I tell ya what... I Love It!! Very easy to use and I am using it with VDJ8 program. Its just a tad bit longer in length (about an 1.5 inches), but so many more features when compared to my previous controller! I just wish that the soundcard in the controller had TRS/XLR outs instead of the RCA. but other than that... This controller is truly AWESOME!!

This controller is perfect for small bar gigs and weddings, so simple my 14 yr old picked it up easily. Installation is a breeze and the serato lite software (free) is a great place to start with this. The wheels feel a little light and cueing up to blend is a little clunky and not very easy to achieve, maybe the pro serato will be easier.
Has had no issues with noise in the system as mentioned by another reviewer, twice one deck has stopped working s far as vinyl control goes but that went away once the controller was unplugged and plugged back in.
Will definitely buy the next model up and pass this on to my daughter later, it looks professional and is a great value product.

Made the switch to a controller after DJing in so many bars & clubs that offered beat up, broken gear. Why not bring my own and be sure it works, right?

But there’s no way I’m going to bring my own 1200s, mixer, needles, CDJs, etc to a bar so the next DJ can spill their tequila shot on it!

But I didn’t want to spend a lot right away, just in case I hate using a controller.

    I don’t!

It’s light weight, easy a heck to use, and very responsive (I use it w a 2019 MacBook w 8gb Ram)

I like the 1/8th in headphone jack. Don’t need to worry about again forgetting/losing the 1/8th to 1/4th inch headphone adapter.

    Cons:
-The scratch effect is kind of a useless feature.
-I wish it had 1/4th inch and/or XLR outputs other than just RCA.
-I also wish it had another output source for monitors.

But for the price, it’s great!

Keep in mind you cannot "acquire" Serato Pro in any other form for this to work, the buttons and knobs will only register if you fit it to the Lite version of Serato, unless you pay and create an account. Overall the weight is not too light and not too heavy, jog wheels responsive, and the program itself (Lite) is fair unless you want to change keys or record your own mixes. Highly recommended for beginners.

Be aware it only includes the USB charger to connect to laptop, it does NOT have the RCA cable to connect to speakers. Must be purchased separately.

Great intro controller. After a year I definitely want to upgrade to a 4 channel but this will get the job done for rookies and pros alike. Before this I had a Hercules JogVision (HJV) and what I prefer about this controller is the HJV needed a power source while the SB3 is USB powered which is great for playing anywhere with no worry (I've played in parks abs on the beach for example). Also the SB3 has 16 pads which are far easier to switch pad modes from sampler to hot cue and others. HJV only beats the SB3 in jog wheel quality and sound card quality.

Having had a lot of free time this pandemic this was one of the first items I purchased. A lot of my friends had controllers and for the price this one stands out. Pioneer makes quality gear. While you might find competitor brands that offer similar features for less price I guarantee you they won't be as good or hold up like this deck has. Personally I would only have considered a Roland controller instead but your choice will likely come down to what is more important for you. If you like to be able to easily create your own beats or add your own elements to songs then Roland is going to be a better choice for you. However if you are more into being able to create something more I would recommend the Pioneer. Both are great and can do the same things each favours one side of the coin to the other.

This was super easy to setup and start using. It integrates well with any number of software out there so no worries about getting tied down to something you don't like to use. Additionally I have found this works great for mixing and even recording not just your own sets but it can work double duty to help you with certain aspects of studio production. Need backing tracks, need to edit or manipulate them, want to add effects? You can do it with this baby. Whether you're rocking your house or broadcasting out this is a good controller to start with. It doesn't have everything but it does give you everything you'll need and can think of. I have yet to find an excuse to pay an extra $1000 or more to get the next model up as dreamy as they look.

This is a killer device... Just fell in Love with this Product... You get more than everything you want as a Beginner DJ...
You can also use it when you become Pro...

    Pros of the Controller:-

    FX Section is Awesome
Pads has a lot of features
Nice Big Jog Wheels and Pads

The only -ve sides I found of this Controller:-

I don't like the Looping Buttons or the Loop System... I wish if it had CDJ type Looping function but for that you've DDJ-400
I do not like the length of the Tempo fader it's a short, could have been longer (DDJ-400 has longer one)
It dosen't come with a Pro Software out of the Box, unlike 400...
    But!!!
These negative sides are Absolutely not a Deal Breaker...

SB-3 is more of a Hip Hop focused Controller
where you can Scratch manually or with Jazzy Jeff's Pad Scratch Button (This Function you'll exclusively get in SB-3 Only), of course you can use it too party hard and play some EDMs
    &
DDJ-400 this Controller is more focused on Club Culture and Festivals...
Of Course you can Scratch on this Controller too...

Overall Both are Very Hard Machines with their own Uniqueness...

I did a lot of research before going for this deck. Go much cheaper and you're getting inferior quality construction and fewer functions and inferior design; go higher and you could be paying for things you're not going to use and you lose portability.

I've been mixing/dj-ing for 20 years and had a good idea of what I needed and what I wanted. Not having to lug vinyl around was what finally made me look seriously at these things. The Numark controllers at the same kind of price are worth looking at, and there's a Roland with drum sequencer that I liked the sound of. In reality though sequencing on it sounds like it's a slow nightmare, and I have my Roland MC-505, so I don't think I would have ended up using it. I liked the idea of the Numark that displays the BPM on each channel, but seeing as this is already prominently displayed on any software you'll use it's really just a gimmick. I originally bought a Numark, but changed to, and stayed with, this Pioneer because I preferred the build quality, design and functionality.

They are in the minority, but I saw a few reviews that flagged up potential problems which made me hesitate on getting this. Some of these things proved to be just wrong, some were things I haven't personally experienced, and some are just opinion (and misleading).
So, some things you may have read in some user "reviews".

"The SB3 doesn't have a headphone volume control, but the SB2 does". Of course the SB3 has this. The knob for it is LITERALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DECK. It goes up very loud and you could make yourself deaf with it.

There's a few people saying they got "electrical noise" because of casing and grounding issues. Maybe this was production issue that's been resolved. I don't have this issue.

I saw a review saying the cross-fader didn't have much resistance to it, and therefore it felt "cheap". I wonder how much actual mixing this person has actually done outside of their bedroom. The cross-fade needs to be light and on many mixers IS lighter than, say, the separate channel volume sliders. When mixing any dance music your fingers should be constantly jumping from the fader to gain/trim, and edging up the channel volume and tweaking the EQ. You blend tunes with all these things and then you need, or certainly I do, a light fader you can quickly slap to the side to finish a transition. I don't scratch, but I still want my cross-fader to be exactly like this.
The fader is light to move, but it's solid. It reacts how it's designed to react. I like that it's very responsive, but I can also smack it around. My old, very metal, very large and very heavy Numark mixer is tighter on the cross-fade but it's still light. I don't want to have to fight my cross-fader when I'm mixing.

Another review said it "feels like a toy" because it's light. Ugh. It IS light. But it's really really well made, very robust. You could throw it at a wall or drop it from a height and it feels like it would still be fine. It feels bomb-proof. The design and feel of everything is high-quality. It's very nice to use.

The jog wheels impressed me with how sensitive and reactive they are - they feel "right".

The headphone out being 3.5mm is a little weird, but adaptors cost pennies. It's a non-issue for me.

It could maybe be a little bigger (using it doesn't feel cramped, though), but I also like the portability. And larger devices often need dedicated power supplies. I've been in situations where being able to power this just from the laptop is ideal (change-overs/setting up is quick and painless). At home it can be stashed away easily, but you can just grab this and plug in one cable and be mixing within seconds.

I can't give any opinions on the Serato software - I just wanted decent hardware and something that would work well with Mixxx, and this does both. Check Mixxx out if you haven't. It's free, fully featured, and intuitive. Put it in vinyl mode and set headphone output to channels 3-4 to get the monitor function working. Serato Pro seems expensive when Mixxx does everything, and well, for no money.

It's Pioneer. Pioneer don't make junk. This is a very nice piece of kit. However, on the edge facing you is printed "Pioneer" on the right, which i like, and on the left "Serato", which I wasn't aware of and I don't like. I'll be sticking electrical tape over it. Some software tie-in product branding for something I don't even use DOES look cheap. It's a minor thing though.

It took some research, and messing around with other controllers, to find what I wanted. I'm actually surprised this is as good as it is. Managed to buy this at £250, but even at £300+ it's still far better than a £300 Numark I tried and it's still a good deal at this higher price.
    Highly recommended.

    EDIT
Just found out that the bundled Lite version of Serato doesn't even let you record your mixes. A lot of people won't know this, and they won't know there's other software solutions - so they'll end up paying even more cash on the "upgrade" just to get basic functionality. Get Mixxx instead.
