    Seriously,

    Very strong design.
Provides pretty long list of presets for different DAWs (virtually all major DAWs).
Four virtual USB ports work in parallel with MIDI ports.
(I have integrated it into environment of Windows PC with several DAWs, Roland FA08 and Casio PX360 )

Supports specs for different types of communication with external hardware.
It comes with updated to 1.01 version of firmware(no need to update the firmware).

If you get this controller then assume that you are the professional(or at least ready to learn) and ready to configure it as you needed.(it is actually a fun thing to do)

I am satisfied with the quality.

It would be helpful to have LEDs for 360 knobs. That is the reason I give it only five stars :)

A few words about most common complains which relate to the Record button.
The record button works fine. I have Ableton with three devices used simultaneously with it.
Two devices have DAW controller functionality embedded (Roland FA 08 and Akai MPD 232).
From both devices I can start recording in Ableton.
Stop button work as stop and as reset of player to zero position on the second click.
Play button works fine as well.
No problem problem with transport functionality.

    Customer support:
It is responsive in regular maner. I get responces within a day .

    MPC essentials:
The package provided on the Akaipro website has incorrect name(Update). However this is the whole installation package. There is no problem with MPC essentials software. I have downloaded , installed and activated it successfully.
If there is a problem with anything send your question to the customer support and follow provided instructions.

I have a feeling the this product(MPD232) is underestimated.
This is the great product with ridiculously low price.

Pads are great. I use them to control my SP1200, battery 4, live 9. They are a little bit softer than the mpc stuff thick pads i installed on my mpc60. These are soft and are great for percussion playing too. The editor had little bit of a learning curve but I figured out how to make presets. I'll make some presets for my elektron gear with it too.

My only complaint is the pad light quality. One of them has already gone bad. I will just learn to live with it. I use this alongside my push 2 for my long ableton practice sessions.

I use Amazon to check pricing and reviews. Buy this product for yourself and you'll be amazed! To make it clear, If your looking for something fully integrated this is not the product for you.

Key point: Pad sensitivity. The manual will tell you how to adjust the pads to your flavor. Beware of reviews complaining about the pads, saying their to sensitive causing double notes\trigger.

Overall: The Pad quality is nice, the software for price is amazing, and you get Note Repeat\MPC Swing\16 Level\Full Level in a controller.

    Have Fun!!

I have used many Pad controllers over the past few years. I go as far back as owning a MPC60 and SP1200. I don't believe in "brand loyalty". I also own (and love) a Maschine. My opinion on the Akai MPD 232 is unbiased.it is a great controller. I think the problem people were having is it was a new controller that required you to download drivers because the current DAWs did not update their software for the new MPD series. In the past two months every DAW I use my MPD has updated including FL Studio and Ableton Live. This thing runs better than the previous MPD versions (18, 26, etc). I use to own a MPD 26 and would still have to assign knobs or faders. This works as it should. Everything is still assignable but I don't have to. I can switch between apps and just as simple as changing the presets, I'm back in business. I do like the fat pads and having the ability to change the colors. The MPD232 is long in diameter and probably not recommend for the mobile producer in which case I recommend the MPD 218. Take advantage while the price is low and buy this. You won't regret it.

MPD 232 Is a clear example of marketing lie. I bought the MPD232 and found that AKAI falsely advertise the presence of 8 q-link knobs, and instead are only MIDI knobs with no q-link function enabled on MPC essential. They advertise one fact and then if you ask for question in the forum they reply with another, saying that q-link on MPC software is available only for MPC controllers. So, why they advertise q-link also for MPD line?. DON'T Buy if you hope to use Q-LINK integration in MPC Studio or MPC Essential....

1.0 out of 5 stars
Reviewed in Japan on April 4, 2018

4.0 out of 5 stars Pad are a weakness, but a good versatile product
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 14, 2023
I like the versatility having faders, knobs, and pads, all in one product. It plugged in and played without any hassle. The options to customise buttons are very good although this might take some time to set up, eg. drum pad colours to match the VST you're using.

The pads aren't really very 'satisfying' to touch, they're a bit hard. I think they offer the same sensitivity as other pads, however it is perhaps harder to achieve that sensitivity with the way they feel.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, if a tad expensive.
